We started with a simple problem.
Electric vehicle owners need practical storage for charging cables, emergency equipment, cleaning products and everyday items. At the same time, many electric vehicles have useful empty space under the bonnet.
A frunk, also called a front trunk, can turn this space into practical storage. However, only if it is correctly designed for the vehicle.
## Why We Started Developing BYD Frunks
When we reviewed the frunk solutions available for BYD vehicles, we noticed an important issue.
Many products were designed for different markets or different vehicle versions. A frunk may look compatible in a photo, but mounting points, brackets, cables and the under-bonnet layout can vary between vehicles.
European BYD models may also have differences compared with versions sold in other regions.
This can create problems such as:
- Difficult installation
- Incorrect positioning
- Unstable mounting
- Contact with surrounding components
- The need to remove original vehicle parts
- Drilling or permanent vehicle modification
We believed there should be a better solution.
This is why MUSTECH develops model-specific frunks for European BYD vehicles.
## Our Product Development Approach
We do not begin by trying to place the largest possible box under the bonnet.
We first study the vehicle.
For each BYD frunk, we consider:
- The available storage area
- Original mounting points
- Clearance from cables and hoses
- Cooling and airflow areas
- Access needed for vehicle servicing
- Bonnet closing clearance
- Product stability during driving
- Installation and removal
The objective is simple: create useful additional storage without disturbing the vehicle’s original structure.
Wherever possible, our frunks use existing mounting points and removable fixing parts. This allows installation without drilling, cutting or making permanent changes to the vehicle.
## Developed for Specific BYD Models
Every vehicle has a different front compartment.
For this reason, MUSTECH develops separate products for:
A BYD ATTO 2 frunk cannot simply be adapted for an ATTO 3. A BYD SEAL U frunk also requires its own shape and mounting solution.
Even vehicles from the same model range may have production differences.
For example, some BYD ATTO 3 vehicles have open factory mounting holes, while others have closed mounting areas. For these versions, we developed a separate BYD ATTO 3 Installation Kit.
The kit allows the frunk to be installed without drilling or permanently modifying the vehicle.
## More Than the Frunk Itself
A good product is not only about the plastic part.
Customers must also understand:
- Whether the product fits their vehicle
- Which mounting version they have
- What is included in the package
- How the frunk should be installed
- How it can be removed for servicing
- What can safely be stored inside
